i'm terry mcsweeney live in oakland where police came under fire late last nate while making a traffic stop. the rifle fire came from a sniper in a high-rise apartment building. details coming up in a live report. >> also this morning, chilling new details are emerging about the gunman armed with body armor and high powered weapons that opened fire on 580. good morning. fog is entering the bay, but will it be enough to cool down the valleys. >> it's looking good on bay area phrase but there is road work. here is road work. >> new rules for carpoolers, you'll need a fastrak device to get the $3 discount.

good morning. i'm kristen sze. >> welcome back. aim eric thomas. >> the search is on in oakland where police are looking for a sniper that opened fire on officers. the shot came from eight street and swat officers just wrapped up their search of that building. terry mcsweeney is live at oakland police headquarters. >> it started out about len 30 last night, its and market, police pulling a car over. we believe it had something to do with marijuana in the car, but soon it became something far more serious than that as a sniper opened fire from a near high-rise apartment building. take a look at the scene. police were all over the place responding to the scene. they were making the stops. they called for back-up and police swarmed to the site and no one was had the hit. officers did enter the apartment building which is on eighth street.

that is where they think the sniper was. police did not enter individual apartment units. they were not sure exactly which unit the sniper's nest was. officers thought they caught a break when they got a video camera surveillance room in the building but that didn't work out. >> in an effort to try to see if there was any video footage that captured the shooting, that is where we went to first. apparently their video system room where it's contained was vandalized. >> if the sniper is the one who vandalized that surveillance room, this may be far more sinister planned than someone who happened to have a fire taking potshots at police officers. we did ask oakland police last night, they also had a homicide

last night. was there a shortage of police? we're told by the lieutenant they had a plenty of officers, that was not a concern last night. terry mcsweeney, "abc 7 news." so we'll talk about the overnight homicide where oakland police are looking for suspects. police were called to the intersection of 19th on report of gunfire. they found a 45-year-old man who was shot to death. they believe he was in town for a job interview today and was killed during a carjacking. police have not released a suspect description. >> the f.b.i. is now investigating a notebook that was found in the truck of a man that shot it out with highway patrol officers yesterday. they say the man was heavily armed and was wearing body armor. lilian kim has newly posted youtube video of the intense gun battle that erupted.

>> you can hear the gunshots on the video. it happened west of grand avenue and left this pickup truck riddled with bullets and three chp windows shattered. he is under arrest for shooting at chp officers. it begin when they pulled him over because he was swerving in and out of traffic. >> he was reaching for something in the car and the next thing, they were fired upon. >> the officers fired back. shootout lasted for as long as 15 minutes. [ gun shots ] >> many residents who live along 580 thought they were hearing firecrackers and realized it was gunfire. >> it was nonstop, fired round after round after round.

>> after the officers shot and arrested him, crime scene investigators were to find anything in the truck. they found a rifle and shotgun and a homemade notebook on california. >> there is no doubt in our mind based on the body armor, the amount of ammunition and type of weapons that was in his possession he was on his way to do a serious crime to someone. >> williams is expected to recover from his injuries. the chp says in all, ten officers opened fire in the shootout. we're learning more about the gunman's background from the mother in the town of groveland. byron williams is an unemployed carpenter who was frustrated for not being able to find work. he gets extremely upset with the current political climate going

on rants against liberals. williams has previously been arrested for assault, property destruction, d.u.i. add theft. >> carpool commuters on the golden gate bridge will need a fastrak account to get the $3 discount toll. they will be charged with the full toll regardless of whether they are car-pooling. it only applies to golden gate bridge. they still have to drive through a lane so they can verify number of people in the vehicle. regular commuters will still be charged for $5. >> a rally in support of former bart officer johannes mehserle is taking place in walnut creek. it's being promoted on the facebook page. it's drawn 147 confirmed and

they will monitor the rally closely including any possible counter done striagsz. >> in vallejo, two fire stations will shut down in an effort to save the city money. two stations serve north vallejo. other stations are expected to be reduced from 18 firefighters to 15 because of the city's budget trumps. fire department warns that response fires for fires and pa paramedic calls will increase because of the longer distance they have to travel. it's 4:37. and we have some fog. >> you were on the east coast and it was thousand degrees outside. thousand percent humidity, too. >> we just worry about the fog, the way it dictates our weather. it's beautiful, we missed you but we are looking at changes coming our way for the

communities that were pretty warm yesterday. east bay valleys tipped the scales to the mid 90s. 54 in redwood city. we do have fog entering san francisco and oakland but overall the northerly gradient has kept the fog out of the bay. we'll see it just on the patchy and coastal side of the bay. cooler today just by a couple of degrees inland. it will tomorrow when the cooldown reaches concord and livermore. it continues throughout the middle of the week. here is a look at the fog, along the san mateo coast and sea breeze will continue to pick up 10-20 miles an hour. we'll see numbers in the 60s, mid-60s san francisco. couple of 90s inland. bigger changes come tomorrow but it looks like a slightly cooler than average trend right through the rest of the workweek. good morning everyone. grace period is over. you must have fastrak if you are

90 days. >> oakland could be the first city in the nation to alloy and regulate wholesale medicinal pot farms. they will consider licensing four large scale warehouses. they approved the plan which includes an undetermined of medium sized farms to supply the three tons of pot sold legally every year. city says licensing the farms will generate millions in fees and taxes. >> they will start a temporary bypass around the syringe hole. one car fell into the hole. bypass will be built on private land and include two traffic lanes and a pedestrian path. city plans to restore the culvert next spring. >> time is 4:43. it started out as a friendly baseball game until things turned ugly. >> the questionable call that

amy hollyfield has the story that is shocking parents and players in vallejo. >> vallejo had just taking the lead in the babe ruth state league tournament and tensions were running high. >> we were winning. >> but the game came the an abrupt and unpredictable incorporated. first base umpire made a tough call and the call was against vallejo and that is when it got ugly. >> the coach for the other team argued with the umpire, didn't like what he heard and reached his arm back and got him. >> he was unconscious for about 20 minutes. they decided to end the game and give sonoma the win. >> they didn't finish the game. terrible for the vallejo kids. they were winning at the time and then they had to forfeit the game. >> i'm very disappointed.

valleys on the warm side. cooling basically around the bay and definitely at our coast. after 6:00, we're not looking much in the way of low cloudiness yet. it will be in the afternoon when the fog begins to make a comeback. we're 55 in san francisco. partly cloudy skies in oakland, also looking at dense fog in napa at 52. holding on to some of that warm air, off in concord and 61 in oakland. subtle changes begin today and more changes tomorrow in terms of overall cooling. we came down a couple degrees and cooling continues in the middle of the week. here is what is going on, the fog is passing and end up hanging at the san mateo coast. sea breeze is going to kick in stronger, anywhere from 10-20 miles an hour and that is advance of a system that is dropping down north and west of us. that is going to push this huge ridge of high pressure further to the east. that is going to allow for the

cooling to get underway for the san joaquin valley and sacramento valley and much of the west coast. cooling is just on the minor side. most of it occurring along the coast later on this afternoon with the sea breeze. low 80s in the san jose area. 82 there. 85 in los gatos. another cool did i at the coast with partial clearing in half moon bay. partly cloudy downtown, 79 in petaluma. 71 in oakland. inland valleys, coming down maybe a couple of degrees but still pretty warm out there. monterey bay, low 90s in gilroy. subtle cooling and more dramatic cooling that takes us into the rest of the week. still off to a great start this monday morning. bay bridge toll plaza, no delays and check out another bridge for you the san mateo bridge is next
